Christian Kohler's Website
gaaf.com is the personal website of Christian Kohler (web /at\ gaaf com). About Me

Access to pictures of various things going on in my life.

Now that I've lived at my new place for a little over 1 year, I decided to look at my annual consumption of electricity, gas and water. Maybe I'll expand this to miles driven and miles flown, to get an overall carbon foot print. Keep in mind that this is a one person household.

I've used almost 13,000 gallons (49.000 liters) of water this year, which is a ridiculous huge amount. That breaks down to an average of 35 gallons (134 liters) per day. This is even though I have a rainwater catchment system to flush my toilet in the rainy season. My washing machine has very low water consumption, but I think my shower does not have a low flow shower head. My toilet is horribly inefficient at 5 gallons per flush (19 liters per flush).

For gas, I've use 10,675 cubic feet (300 m3), which is an average of 29 cubic feet (0,83 m3) per day. I do not have a good sense for amounts of gas. My gas consumption is only for my stove/oven and my tankless instant water heater.

My electricity consumption was 1137 kWh over the last year. This is about 3.1 kWh/day. Keep in mind that about 1.5 kWh/day is used my by refrigerator. My PV panels have been producing electricity for the last 4-5 months, but they have not been switched on the whole time. During the past 2 months they have been running continuously and I've only used 1 kWh/day during that period.

I would love to hear about your energy consumption numbers, where ever in the world you are.

hey Christian. Wat grappig om over je blog te struikelen. Broertje van Thom uit de Madeliefstraat hier. Woon inmiddels bijna 5 jaar in Australie, waar de water consumptie op rantsoen is.
